Lace up your skates for one of Canada’s favourite winter pastimes – ice skating. Keswick and Georgina have several indoor and outdoor rinks where you can bundle up and glide across the ice. The Georgina Ice Palace offers public skating sessions for only $1 per person on weekends from January 9 until April 1, as well as ice hockey and figure skating programs. Make sure to check the Winter Skating Schedule prior to visiting as skate times can change without notice and certain exclusion dates apply.
If you prefer to stay on solid ground, why not go for a snowshoe hike? The forests and trails around Keswick are perfect for snowshoeing, with plenty of scenic routes to explore, including the Keswick Trail and Sibbald Point Provincial Park or head over to the ROC where you can rent snowshoes and even go on an evening trail walk on Fridays from 4:30pm – 9:00pm through their lit snowshoe trail system, ending at the Georgina Pioneer Village. Snowshoeing is a great way to explore the outdoors and get some exercise, and it's an activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities.
One of the most popular winter activities in Keswick is ice fishing. Lake Simcoe is well-known for its abundant fish population, and in the winter, anglers can catch perch, pike, and even the elusive lake trout. If you don't have your own ice fishing gear, don't worry - there are plenty of local businesses that rent equipment such as Snake Island Fish Huts which has daily hut rentals that include transportation to and from the hut plus live bait.
Did you know? Lake Simcoe has long been heralded as the ice fishing capital of North America with more people ice fishing here than anywhere else on the continent.
If you're looking for a more adrenaline-fueled winter activity, you might want to try snow tubing. The Tube and Terrain Park at the ROC in Keswick offers a thrilling snow tubing experience, with long, steep slopes on a four-lane snow tube hill, perfect for speeding down on a large inner tube. This activity is sure to be a hit with kids and adults alike. Don’t forget your helmet but if you don’t have one, ski industry approved helmets are available for rent.
